Over the last decade, I have worked on a range of freelance projects for clients in education and the arts, drawing on experience and skills developed over a decade as an evaluator in three very different HE institutions, and through postgraduate-level training in social research methods. 

As a 'solopreneur' I can offer a tailored and responsive service and take on projects of a variety of types and sizes. Through experience, I'm comfortable working to a brief and delivering project outputs within agreed timeframes. Dissemination is a fundamental part of the evaluation and research process and I'm passionate about finding ways to communicate to different audiences in ways that really speak to them. Conduct a Custom Research Project 

Do you already have specific research questions in mind? Or do you need assistance in formulating strong research questions to address a particular problem? In either case, I offer tailored research project design and delivery to provide the insights necessary for informed decision-making. With training and experience employing a wide range of research methods, my toolkit includes:

  • Qualitative Methods: Collecting rich qualitative data through interviews, focus groups, workshops, and literature reviews, I can apply different methods of analysis (including thematic, discourse and narrative) to identify important themes and derive compelling stories. I'm practised in using NVivo for qualitative data analysis and have an up-to-date enhanced DBS certificate. 
  • Quantitative Methods: Harnessing the power of surveys, monitoring data and administrative datasets, and employing descriptive and inferential statistics, I can uncover associations and patterns, using data visualisations to communicate these in an accessible way. I'm experienced in Qualtrics, Excel and SPSS and many of the large datasets used in HE. 

Develop or Refine a Theory of Change (ToC)

Whether you need to develop a programme theory for an existing program or a new initiative, I can work closely with you to articulate how the programme is expected to work, translating this into both visual and narrative ToCs. With experience facilitating Theory of Change workshops, I can draw out and refine the insights of different stakeholders, including delivery staff and senior leaders. The complexity of the Theory of Change, including the number of development workshops and the nature of final outputs, can be adjusted to meet your specific needs.


Evaluate a Programme

From establishing the need to reporting and dissemination, I can lead on all stages of a programme evaluation. Depending on your requirements, I can also assist with specific aspects of an evaluation. You can hire me to:

  • Conduct a needs assessment
  • Gather and synthesize existing evidence
  • Collaborate with you to articulate a Theory of Change
